Interview the Artist (Art Criticism)
Description
After the project is complete, students will get a chance to display their works in the hallway or teacher display board. For the final lesson in this unit, students will choose a work (other than their own) and write an artist statement in the form of an imaginary interview. Each student will share their artist statement and interpretation of the work with the class.

Guiding Questions
- What symbols, images and text did “you” choose to draw your viewers’ awareness to the issue
of the conflict?
- Who was “your” intended audience and where would the work be displayed to reach that audience?

- Students will imagine that they are the artwork made by a fellow student, and creatively interpret the work of a fellow student; considering the messages, point of view of the artist, and the intended audience.

- Name cards to accompany the artworks

Procedure
Day 15:
- Students will select a work (other than their own) and spend time analyzing symbols, texts, images, and arrangement of the elements within the work.
- Students will role-play the persona of the artists and answer a series of questions as if they were the artists participating in an interview.
Guiding Questions

- Students will write their responses to the given interview questions then the teacher will “mock interview” the student while he/she explains the work.
